A day when getting out of the house was much needed. Decided on a whim to see if I can find the Split Rock Furnace that I never saw. With leafless trees I knew that it wouldn't be an issue finding it once on the right trail. After making a wrong turn for not using my GPS, I found it without any problems and it was easily accessible. The Split Rock Furnace was built in 1862 by Andrew B. Cobb. The 32 foot - Just less than 10 meters high charcoal filled stone furnace was constructed to smelt Magnetite Ore needed for the Civil War.
