Nike Missile Barracks

During the cold war were the United States Army rings of the Nike Missiles. This base was the NL-80L located in East Hanover, New Jersey where from 1954 to 1974 the skys were continually watch 24/7/365 for twenty years.

These bases were intended to defend us against enemy aerial attack. The Nike system was an integrated network of radar guided, antiaircraft missiles. Designed to locate, track and destroy squadrons of enemy Bombers.

Fortunately, a missile was never launched from this site or any other. In 1974; for various reasons, the system was decommissioned. NL-80L was the last New York base to close.
