Established back in 1828, the Lafayette Cemetery is set back off a highway that narrows down to a two lane road. Set on a hill that might take a little straining to climb up if you aren't in shape. There are headstones that date back to 1793. In 2013 the Lafayette Cemetery was granted Historical District Status from the State on Hew Jersey.

 

 

Every year in October the Lafayette Center Preservation Foundation holds a walk through the cemetery after dark. Tales are told about the heritage of who lies here as well as Ghost Stories of the tragic deaths that accured. If you're lucky, you might just spot a ghost lurking about wondering who you are.

History of when the Township had the viral epidemic they called "The Speckled Monster" better known as Smallpox. The hanging of Mary Jones for the brutal murder of her Mother she committed over what many would kill for... Money. Another legend about Floyd Jones a Lafayette resident disappeared after leaving his usual drinking spot and when discovered the very next day, he was found heinously wedged between a large boulder and tree left for dead in the Paulinskill River.
